Classrooms

  • Be repetitive: Use your classroom in a similar way during each class. Circle time is always in one area. Start dancing across the floor from one particular side. Always use the same corner for time-out when needed. Repetition helps your classroom flow because students become familiar with the patterns.

  • Memorize your space: It’s important to know where different props that you’ll use for the day are located. Keep them consistently in the same spot so you can quickly grab what you need or put it away.

  • Out of sight, out of mind: Keep your props in drawers or bins out of the students’ line of sight. If they can see a prop, they will want to use it immediately.

  • Design your classroom flow so that you can face your students the vast majority of the time.
